We Run These Streetz ("WRTS," "we," "us," or "our") operates werunthesestreetz.com and offers community programs, challenges, events, and related services, including the Four Ws annual journey and, as it becomes available, the WRTS Passport. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect personal information when you use our website or participate in our programs.
Our approach is privacy-first: we use community participation to understand and improve our programming, not to surveil individual participants. We do not sell personal information.
1. Information We Collect
The information we collect depends on how you interact with WRTS. We may collect:
Account and registration information: such as your name, email address, age or date of birth, contact details, and the information you provide when registering for an account, program, challenge, or event.
Participation information: such as which Four Ws programs or challenges you take part in, whether you report completing activities, and information you choose to provide about your participation or experience.
WRTS Passport information: if you use the Passport, records of challenges, experiences, learning, service, badges, achievements, and progress that you choose to record or that are recorded through your participation.
Event and fulfillment information: information needed to administer an event or fulfill an item, such as a mailing address for a finisher medal, where applicable.
Emergency contact information: if you provide it for an event, the emergency contact's name, relationship to you, and contact details.
Photos, video, and audio: media you submit to us, or media captured in connection with a WRTS activity where appropriate notice and consent have been provided. For the December Dash, media permission is optional and may be declined as described in the applicable waiver or event terms.
Communications: messages, survey responses, feedback, support requests, and your communication preferences.
Basic technical information: information that may be collected when you use our website, such as IP address, browser and device information, pages viewed, and information collected through cookies or similar technologies, as described below.
Please do not include sensitive personal information—such as detailed medical information, government identification numbers, account passwords, or financial account credentials—in challenge responses, surveys, or messages unless we specifically request it for a stated purpose.
2. How We Use Information
We may use personal information to:
provide, administer, and improve WRTS programs, challenges, events, and the WRTS Passport;
register participants, communicate program information, and respond to questions;
record achievements or participation details that support a participant's Passport, where applicable;
fulfill event-related requirements, such as arranging delivery of a medal;
contact an emergency contact or assist with emergency response when reasonably necessary and consistent with the event terms;
understand participation and assess community impact in aggregate or de-identified form;
send marketing or promotional messages when you have consented or where otherwise permitted by law;
maintain website functionality, prevent misuse, protect security, and comply with legal obligations; and
enforce applicable terms and protect WRTS, participants, and others.
We use participation information to learn from and improve programming at a community level. We do not use it to surveil individuals. We aim to report trends and impact in aggregate or de-identified form, rather than identify individual participants.
3. Marketing Communications
We send marketing communications only when you have chosen to receive them or when otherwise permitted by law. You can unsubscribe using the instructions in a message or contact us at info@werunthesestreetz.com. Even if you opt out of marketing, we may still send important service-related messages, such as registration, safety, or account communications.
4. Photos, Video, and Audio
Where WRTS requests permission to use identifiable photos, video, or audio for promotional, educational, community, or informational purposes, that permission is optional and is not a condition of participation unless clearly stated otherwise for a particular activity.
For the December Dash, you may consent or decline consent to the use of identifiable media as set out in the event waiver. You may withdraw your consent for future use by contacting info@werunthesestreetz.com. Withdrawal does not require WRTS to retrieve or remove materials already published or distributed, but we will make reasonable efforts to honor the request for future use.
If you submit media to WRTS, please make sure you have the right to share it and, where appropriate, permission from identifiable people shown or heard in it.
5. Children and Minors
WRTS does not knowingly collect personal information online from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent where required by the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ("COPPA"). If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without the required consent, we will take steps to delete it or obtain the required consent.
A parent or legal guardian must provide consent for participants ages 13–17 before they participate in WRTS activities that require guardian consent. We may request information necessary to confirm that consent. Parents or guardians may contact us at info@werunthesestreetz.com to ask about, access, correct, or request deletion of a minor's information, subject to applicable law and verification.
6. Cookies and Similar Technologies
Our website may use cookies and similar technologies. Cookies are small files stored on your device that help a website function and remember certain information. We may use them to:
operate and secure the website;
remember preferences or help with website functionality; and
understand, in a general way, how visitors use the website so we can improve it.
Some analytics tools may collect technical information such as browser type, pages visited, and approximate usage patterns. You can manage cookies through your browser settings. Disabling some cookies may affect website functionality. Where required by law, we will provide additional choices or notices for cookies and similar technologies.
7. How We Share Information
We may share personal information in limited circumstances:
Service providers: with vendors that help us operate the website, registration, communications, analytics, event administration, or fulfillment. They may use information only to provide services to WRTS, subject to appropriate contractual protections.
Emergency response: with emergency responders or relevant individuals when reasonably necessary to address an emergency, consistent with information you provide and applicable event terms.
Legal and safety purposes: when reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to valid legal process, protect rights and safety, investigate fraud or security issues, or enforce our agreements.
Business changes: in connection with a merger, reorganization, financing, or transfer of some or all of our business, subject to appropriate protections and applicable law.
We may share aggregate or de-identified impact information with sponsors, employers, community organizations, public-sector partners, or other program partners. This may include summaries of participation or program outcomes, but we do not provide those partners with identifiable participant-level data for their own marketing or tracking through these reports.
We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. If our practices change, we will update this Policy and provide any notice or choice required by law.
8. Data Retention
We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including providing programs and services, maintaining relevant participation or Passport records, fulfilling event requirements, resolving disputes, keeping appropriate business records, and meeting legal obligations.
Retention periods may vary based on the type of information and the reason it was collected. When information is no longer needed, we will delete it, de-identify it, or securely dispose of it, subject to legal, operational, and security requirements.
9. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal information. No website, system, or method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Your Choices and Privacy Rights
You may contact us to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about you, or to withdraw consent where our processing is based on consent. We may need to verify your identity and may retain certain information where permitted or required by law.
Depending on where you live and whether applicable legal thresholds are met, you may have additional rights, including the right to:
know or access the personal information collected about you;
request correction or deletion;
receive a portable copy of certain information;
opt out of certain processing, such as a sale or sharing of personal information or targeted advertising; and
not be discriminated against for exercising applicable privacy rights.
WRTS does not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. If the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended ("CCPA"), applies to WRTS and to your information, California residents may have rights under that law, including rights to know, delete, correct, and limit certain uses or disclosures of sensitive personal information, as applicable. WRTS will honor other state privacy rights where applicable.
To make a privacy request, contact us using the details below. We will respond as required by applicable law. An authorized agent may submit a request where permitted by law, and we may ask for documentation and verification.
11. Third-Party Websites and Services
Our website or programs may link to third-party websites or services. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, not this Policy. We encourage you to review those policies before providing information to third parties.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our services, information practices, or legal requirements. We will post the updated Policy on werunthesestreetz.com and revise the "Last updated" date. If a change materially affects how we handle information, we will provide additional notice where required by law.
